This series consists of informational and educational films produced by the Department of Defense for viewing by members of the armed forces and by the public. They cover such topics as the history of the American flag; a description of the American government and election process; an overview of Communism and the history of the Cold War to date, including the Cuban Missile Crisis, Communist China, Sputnik, the Berlin crisis, and missile development; military assistance provided to victims of Hurricane Betsy (1965) and the Alaskan earthquake (1964); the President's Youth Opportunity Program at the White Sands Missile Range; a history of female and minority participation in the American military; biographies of President Eisenhower and General MacArthur; current crises in the Middle East and in Latin America; instructions for behavior when stationed overseas; and dramatized stories of defectors and guerilla warfare. Many of the films cover aspects of the Vietnam War including medical assistance provided to Vietnamese civilians, the role of military advisers, the U. S. Marine Corps’ "Operation Golden Fleece," and reviews of the activities of the Air Force, Navy, and Army. They also include captured Viet Cong footage. Actors serving as narrators in the films in this series include Charlton Heston, John Wayne, and Glenn Ford.

General of the Army Douglas MacArthur (26 January 1880 – 5 April 1964) was an American five-star general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Philippines campaign, which made him and his father Arthur MacArthur Jr. the first father and son to be awarded the medal.
